EXCELLENT DIGITAL CLOCK RADIO FOR US$10

Have you tried to find a clock radio recently? They seem to have gone out of fashion.

But there is an excellent clock radio, all digital AM and FM tuning, and with large 1.8-inch LED numbers (dimmable) you can read from clear across the room. It is sold at Big Lots stores for only US$10. Look for the Sylvania clock radio model SCR1206B-PL.

Why is it so cheap? Probably because there are several errors in the instruction book that will prevent anyone who follows the instructions from setting the two alarms or setting the 20 AM and 20 FM radio presets. The corrections needed to the instructions are given below.

"Saving a Station as Preset". This cannot be done as the instructions are written. After step #4, you need to add a step #5 as follows: 5. Press MEMORY & CLOCK SET BUTTON.

"Setting the Alarm". This cannot be done as the instructions are written. Step #2 says, "Press the VOLUME DOWN & ALARM ONE BUTTON ... " It should read, "Press and hold (at least 2 seconds) the VOLUME DOWN AND ALARM ONE BUTTON ..."

And there is yet another error in the instructions. On page 4, item 16, it says the clock radio is powered by "AC~9V/0.4A". DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT! The power adapter that comes with each of my two clock radios is model FD28UD-5-200 and it puts out five volts at 200 milliamperes (0.2 amp). The clock radio case by the power connector is stamped "5V DC" and it works just fine with that!

Again, this clock radio is an excellent product. The 20 + 20 station presets and the 2 alarms work perfectly with the above corrections to the instructions.

Also, it has long been my habit to listen using a pillow speaker. The radio does not come with a headphone jack, but I added a headphone jack that disconnects the internal single 8-ohm monaural speaker when a headphone or pillow speaker is plugged in.
